Massachusetts State Police activated an Amber Alert after Hannah Benson and her six-month-old son Grayson were taken from their Dartmouth home on Thursday, Dec. 1, as previously reported by Daily Voice. Their alleged abductor was Benson's former boyfriend Jeremias Cabral, of Fall River.
Initial investigation suggested that Cabral took the baby after the couple got into a fight and he showed a knife, State Police originally reported. Benson then followed Cabral to his vehicle before he drove off.
However after being interviewed by detectives with the Dartmouth Police Department, Benson said that she and Grayson were in fact not abducted and left with Cabral without being threatened.
Further investigation determined that Cabral got into a fight with another man, threatened him with a knife and stole his cell phone, Dartmouth Police said on Facebook.
The man also said that Cabral forced Benson and her child into a Mitsubishi Lancer being driven by another man, later identified as Michael Abrantes, also of Fall River. This was the same vehicle mentioned in the Amber Alert.
The vehicle then left Dartmouth and was subsequently found in Fall River, police said. Benson and her baby were left unharmed while Cabral and Abrantes were taken into custody.
Cabral was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and larceny, and Abrantes was charged with possession of both a Class A and B drug, police said.
